Welcome to ONCOSCREEN’S Stakeholder Spotlight Miniseries for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
This week we focus on the importance of early detection as one of the most effective ways to reduce deaths from colorectal cancer. Screening can identify precancerous polyps or early-stage cancer before symptoms appear, allowing doctors to intervene early and prevent disease progression.
“Colorectal cancer often develops slowly over many years. Screening allows us to detect and remove precancerous polyps before they become cancer, making it one of the most effective tools in prevention,”
says Prof. Juozas Kupčinskas, Vice Rector for Research and Head of the Gastroenterology Department and Institute for Digestive Research at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
During CRC Awareness Month, clinicians encourage people who are eligible to participate in national screening programmes and discuss colorectal cancer risk with their healthcare providers.
