CCassured joined the webinar on 03-11-2025 organized by the EU health policy platform (EUHPP), a platform focused on Cancer diagnosis and treatment at being part of the EU cancer mission program. EUHPP facilitates the discussion between different consortiums by organizing e.g., webinars and herewith providing also the opportunity for different stakeholders to join. In this way one can learn from each other and expand knowledge and their network. The meeting that CCassured attended was joined by more than 120 participants and an EUHPP team of more than 20 persons including technical support enabling a smooth progress of the webinar, which was well organized.

The main things discussed were divided in three topics including a keynote speaker that focused on a pragmatic approach on clinical trials that can help bridge the challenges experienced during the implementation of the findings during these trials in real-world practice. Here after a panel discussion followed on treatment optimizations highlighted in different consortiums that even included participants from the Marie Curie doctoral network training program, a representative for cancer patients in Europe, someone from Philips and a speaker involved in the treatment therapy optimization for cancer.

The second panel discussion, the third topic, focused on diagnosis and treatment of cancer in men and women. This included very interesting topics ranging from non-invasive tests in prostate cancer diagnostics. A multi-disciplinary clinical project focused on patient management of patients with a poor ovarian cancer outcome that were treated with a new kind of chemotherapy. Breast cancer diagnostics and personalized response monitoring and a polish national cancer mission hub. CCassured wants to highlight that also in the Netherlands a national cancer hub is active, the Dutch cancer collective named NKC, which is connected to the EU mission cancer program as well. In the Netherlands NKC facilitates interactions between different stakeholders and patients to tackle the challenges experienced by patients and improve the diagnosis and treatment options of cancer.

The meeting was interactive, with familiar points that were passing the revue, including the challenges of setting up clinical trials both for diagnostics and therapeutics, which type is the best, what are the legal requirements to name a few. Last but not least a very important point passed the revue as well, namely the financial valley of death that still exists for bringing diagnostics and therapeutics to the marked, when are investors jumping in, and the financial gap that still exists until that moment. For the latter CCassured would like to notify the readers on an interesting course provided by the Institute of Biomedical Entrepreneurship (IBE | Institute for Biomedical Entrepreneurship) that tries to provide answers and help to facilitate these challenges. For the ONCOSCREEN and other EU cancer-oriented projects these insights and also the EUHPP network can further help accelerating our overall joined goal, namely to provide a European shield against cancer by facilitating collaborations within the EU.
